Notes
This is, as always with Helion, a beautifully produced book, with many more photographs than is normal. It is a mixture of text by the joint authors, and letters and diary entries by the subject of the book, with various accompanying informative sections. This may sound like a little bit of a mixture, but it works well, and if anything lets the story of Elliott come out even more strongly. There have been any number of biographies of, especially, very young subalterns serving particularly on the Western Front, and we pass most of them by, but we chose to include this one in the Collection because first, the subject subject of the book appears to have been the epitome of the genre, and secondly it's a personal indulgence because like me Esmond Elliott was a Borderer.
