The Collection belongs to The 1926 Foundation, which is a charity registered in Scotland with registration number SC040789. Between 2010 and 2022, the Collection was housed at the University of St. Andrews, specifically as a constantly expanding research collection. Sadly for us, the University was no longer able to support this status, which has resulted in the Collection moving into temporary storage, pending the establishment of a new home, which is presently under discussion. Please direct any queries about the Collection to john.cawthorn@the1926foundation.org.
The Collection is organised firstly into Categories, which are all fairly obvious. Depending on the general category, there are divisions into the separate components; for instance, the Western Front is divided into years and then further subdivided into specific events, e.g. major battles, within that year. Then each Category contains the record of the individual books, sorted in chronological and/or logical manner. Finally, each entry for an individual book contains the following information:
- The full title of the book
- The name of the author
- The name and location of the publisher
- The year of publication
- The ISBN number, where applicable
- Whether purchased new or second hand
- The price paid
- The date of purchase
- Most individual books have a short review
There is a separate section for Authors. This lists authors alphabetically, giving their full name, titles, any decorations, their nationality, and where it is available, a brief narrative about the author.
The collection currently contains 2,401 volumes by 1,823 authors across 103 categories and 413 sub-categories.
Despite the books presently being in storage, we are still actively curating the Collection and we would be delighted to hear from interested parties at john.cawthorn@the1926foundation.org.
