Notes
The book is signed by the author "Norman, with the warmest possible good wishes from your friend. Dugald Gardner December 2005. Helen and I have never forgotten your kindness to us". Henry Wade was a pioneering surgeon who achieved success in his chosen profession, but also honour in war and great influence in medical politics. It is interesting to note that Wade was, before the war, Conservator of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, as was the author of the book. This is a large book - oversize, with 430 pages. Only two chapters relate to Wade's wartime service in Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine, but they are of the greatest interest to students of these campaigns. And the rest of the book, whilst non military, is a fascinating read!
