There is a full set of maps, in good condition, in the pocket on the rear cover. The Flyleaf is inscribed 'Mrs. M. James Burn, 25, Chester Square, London SW, 1919'. Please note that this is the First Edition. When this was published, French came under attack from various sources, including people like Asquith. He contrived to have a Second Edition published almost immediately, and in it he has a Preface of about 8 pages in which he answers all the criticism levied at him. It is for this reason that, considering this quite an important aspect of looking at French's life, his defensive comments in the Second Edition are very relevant, so we also have the Second Edition in the Collection, sitting with the First.
