Notes
This is a "tour de force" on the part of the Author, who had already established himself as a military historian when he published this three volume set which sets out the war histories of all Welsh units involved in the war. The trilogy is the culmination of 12 years of painstaking research into the Welsh men and units which fought in the war. These included the regular units - The Royal Welsh Fusiliers, South Wales Borderers, Welsh Regiment, and Welsh Guards - as well as the Territorial Monmouthshire Regiment, the Yeomanry Regiments - The Denbighshire Hussars, Pembroke Yeomanry, Montgomeryshire Yeomanry, Glamorgan Yeomanry and Welsh Horse Yeomanry, and their amalgamation into Service battalions for the regular regiments in 1917. Welsh troops fought in every theatre of the war - the Western Front, Aden, China, Gallipoli, Egypt, India, Italy, Salonika and Palestine. This volume covers the period from the declaration of war to the aftermath of the Battles of Loos and Gallipoli, and the arrival of the 38th (Welsh) Division in France in December 1915.
