Notes
When we bought this book, we genuinely thought that it was a narrative about the Unknown Warrior. It was only later, when we sat down to have a more detailed look at it, that we discovered that it was a work of fiction. Nevertheless, the book does have two sets of images which are relevant to both the war itself (Messines and Passchendaele) and about what actually happened about the Unknown Warrior after the war. The author intertwines fact and fiction, and different time frames, skilfully. The book is well written - very slightly let down by some errant proof reading - and we highly recommend it, both as a good read and also because the descriptions of life at the Front, especially during Third Ypres, are excellent.
