Notes
This book was, in its time, a major new interpretation of the crisis in democracy in Italy after the Great War. The author uses well researched archives and documents to analyse monetary and financial policy in Italy between 1914 and 1922. He argues that the collapse of parliamentary government arose from the failure of administrations after 1918 to balance the conflicting claims of great power politics, social welfare, economic growth, and macro-economic stability.
