Notes
This book was first published by Faber in 1940. Wynne was a highly respected military historian, and in this book, which assesses German tactics on the Western Front during the First World War, he argues that the German tactical successes were largely attributed to one "mastermind", that of General Fritz von Lossberg. The book was written drawing on the then recently published memoirs of von Lossberg. It covers all the major operations in France and Flanders, from Neuve Chapelle in March 1915 to the end of Passchendaele in late 1917.
