Notes
This is the story of the Washington Naval Arms Limitation Treaty, signed in 1922, ratified by all signatories in 1923 and registered with the League of Nations in 1924. The Treaty was of course intended to put a stop to the arms races which had contributed to the outbreak of the Great War. Therefore this is a relevant area of study for the Collection, given its full title. There are two parts to this very detailed book - the First Part is "The Path to the Battleship Holiday", and covers the generation before the war, and the war itself. The Second Part is "A Short Holiday and its Aftermath", and covers mainly the inter-war years which saw the crumbling of the Treaty, and also, interestingly, the period from the end of the Second World War to as late as 2006.
