Notes
"Bayly" in the title of this book was Vice-Admiral Sir Lewis Bayly, who was appointed to command the Coast of Ireland Command, later renamed Western Approaches Command. This book is the story of that Command, and its crucial role in keeping the route across the Atlantic open, especially after the United States joined the war. Indeed, it was only after the US Navy joined the Command that the battle to keep the seaways open was mastered. This is a new book by a respected naval historian, and joins the contemporary account we have in the Collection by Keble Chatterton.
