Notes
This is a very important book which joins our category of books on Jutland. Modern technology has made it possible to first trace and then plot the wrecks of ships pretty accurately. This is what is described in this book, a beautifully presented over-size volume. Multibeam imaging has made shipwreck archaeology attainable, and McCartney, an expert in this field, uses this and other technologies to trace the sinkings on both sides as the battle progressed, with a full explanation about the ship concerned, and what stage of the battle had been reached, and then details of how the loss of the ship came about. The book is so detailed - with endless images - that a newcomer to the subject might almost become reasonably knowledgeable about the battle.
