Notes
This is an interesting and very relevant book. As a Helion product, it is beautifully presented, there are over 300 pages of text with many images which, at least for the Northern European reader, will be largely unknown. The book is important first, because it is about the Italian Front, which is relatively poorly served by modern publishers, despite having soaked up a great number of Central Powers troops for a good part of the war. Secondly, it is relevant because it is about the elite troops of both combatants, developing assault troop tactics in the context of trench warfare waged in the mountainous front of the Alps and the rocky hills of the Carso Plateau. The book also has an Appendix which advises (only the intrepid!) travelling readers about battlefield visits.
