Notes
This book is not confined to the First World War nor is it intended to be a study of Italy during the period immediately preceding and succeeding the war, as well as the war itself. Instead, it is an account of the country through its "Liberal" period (which is the one we are interested in), the "Fascist" period, from the Twenties until the end of the Second World War, and finally the "Republican" period from then up to the present day. The first three chapters cover the "Liberal" period. There is little mention of the war in any event but the book is in the Collection because it gives us a study of the political, economic and socio-cultural history of the country in that period, during which the war was, of course, a major event.
