Notes
This book is about one of the key engagements of the Germans' Kaiserschlacht campaign - the defence of Villers-Bretonneux, from where, had they succeeded, the Germans could have rained down shells on Amiens, a key logistic hub for the Allies. The Australians arrived "just in time", and saved the day. This is the story of that engagement, although the book - a very long one at nearly 750 pages - does give a good description of the overall Kaiserschlacht episode, but also how this particular engagement came to be fought. The book is an Australian published one, written by a very experienced Australian Military Historian. We might have considered categorising this under "Australian Army", but we believe it rightly belongs to the category into which we have placed it.
