There is a Foreword to the book by Brigadier-General T.W. Stansfeld, CMG, DSO, who was commander of the 178th (Sherwood Foresters) Brigade from April 1917 until it was broken up in May 1918. The book was originally published in 1920. This facsimile version is produced by N & M by kind permission of the Central Library, Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. This is a good, concise (just under 200 pages) account of this battalion's war. It was a New Army battalion which served in Ireland following its training period, then transferred to the Western Front, until it was disbanded in May 1918 following the events of Kaiserschlacht.
