Notes
This book is nothing to do with Nova Scotia's life in the Great War, it is about the military effort which occurred in the Province. For all that, we have decided to categorise it in "Canada and the War", as this category seems to be the most appropriate. Nova Scotia was the Headquarters of Military District No. 6, based in Halifax. The chapters of the book - it is well over 400 pages in length - deal with that military effort, which was very considerable. The main ports of Halifax and Sydney were major staging posts for the war effort - Halifax was the naval base for the British Empire on the Atlantic Coast. The book is very comprehensive and it deals with what at first sight almost appears to be myriads of battalions and other military organisations which passed through and/or were stationed in the Province.
