Notes
This book was translated by Ruth Martin. This is a new book about Munich in November 1918 and the ensuing months, when in the final days of the war revolutionaries opened the doors of military prisons, occupied official buildings and overthrew the monarchy. The new Head of State of Bavaria was Kurt Eisner, a journalist and theatre critic, along with various luminaries of German cultural history. Two months later Eisner was assassinated and the revolution failed, to give way to right wing activists - the precursors of the Nazis. This was clearly a crucial event in post war Germany, and this is a good book which deals with the events of that time in an accessible manner.
