Notes
The book was translated from the German by Edwin H. Zeydel. There is an Introduction by Harry Elmer Barnes. This book is a German view of Versailles, and given the position of the author (q.v.), it reflects the views on the war in post-war Germany, particularly as promoted by The Centre for the Study of the Causes of the War, an organisation promoted by both the Weimar Republic and later, the Third Reich. The sole purpose of this organisation was to justify the German position. As such, the book is to be expected to be heavily weighted, but it is written in an academic manner, and at least in some parts of Inter-War U.S. Society, it appears to have been accepted as a serious work.
