Notes
Revered by some as the Arab Garibaldi, but maligned by others as an intriguer and opportunist, the subject of this book began his career as an officer in the Ottoman Army, fighting in the Great war. Thereafter, he led a shady life in the realms of insurgency and revolt across the Middle East. He spent World War Two in Germany, where he battled his fellow exile, the Mufti of Jerusalem. In his most famous role, he commanded the Arab Liberation Army in the Arab - Israeli War of 1948. We have categorised this book where we have, as opposed to the Biography section, as it is a useful tool in understanding the Arab - Israeli conflict especially in the modern era.
