Notes
This is a massive book, it encompasses all three volumes of the original work into one volume. The original was first published in 1931. Trotsky, of all people, might be said to be one of the best people to author such a book, and yet to what extent do his personal politics and position influence his story? It must be for the reader to judge, but nevertheless this is a book which has a rightful place in The Collection. The book was translated by Max Eastman, and American writer, editor and prominent radical, who in 1922 travelled to Soviet Russia to study the regime, and subsequently witnessed the power struggles between Trotsky and Stalin.
