Notes
The copy of the book we have in The Collection is the Second Edition, despite it having been issued in 1916. The First Edition was published in late 1915 There was formed, during the early stages of the war, The United Navy and Army Board, which brought together Baptists, Congregationalists, Primitive Methodists and United Methodists. This organisation sent out chaplains to the troops so that they could be ministered to by chaplains of their own particular religious persuasion. The book is a thorough description of the life of a chaplain, in its many guises. It is full of photographs of (presumably only some of) the chaplains who were sent to the front. This is a very early, and thus useful, addition to The Collection.
