The book acknowledges the Battalion's debt to the Battalion of the Royal Scots known as McCrae's Battalion, with their core of Heart of Midlothian (Hearts) players. The book is a moving account of how comradeship stood firm from Orient's ground in East London to the mud of The Somme.
