Notes
Sheldon is ex military himself, and has been a prolific author on the German aspect of the Western Front. This is his latest book, this time a fresh way of looking at the Battle of The Somme in 1916. The book explains how the German defence was designed and conducted as it was. Sheldon analyses all the components of the German approach to the Battle, and he uses specific case studies to illustrate his approach and methodology. Given the greatly increased output of writing about the Western Front, and specifically the Battle of The Somme recently, this book is a welcome approach to the story from a different angle.
