Notes
These Guides are truly wonderful. They were published in 1920, so everything is extremely new. They vary in size - this one is one of the slimmer volumes (but still 128 pages) but they are all in extremely good condition and they all have their dust jackets, also in good condition. The Guides explain how the war affected the area covered, and then they become true guides, with suggested routes. Each place, locally, whatever, is treated in detail. There is a great deal of helpful text but the gems are the myriad images, some of them very rare -and of course we can also see what these places looked like less than two years after the war's end. These Guides were accompanied by the original of a letter written in September 1922 to an unidentified person in the following terms: "Dear Sir Michelin Map of the British Isles As an appreciation of services rendered by you in the past in connection with the correction of our map, we have pleasure in asking your kind acceptance of a set of books entitled "Michelin Guides to the Battlefields", which we are sending herewith. We trust that these volumes will interest you. We are, dear Sir, Yours faithfully, Michelin Tyre Co Ltd"
