Notes
This is Volume 2 of a two volume set. Volume 1 is about, mainly, The Ulster Volunteer Force from its raising in the late 19th Century to the outbreak of war. This volume is about it transforming into battalions of regular regiments to form the 36th Division. The main authority on this Division is Cyril Falls' original treatment published in 1922. This book should really be regarded as a modern update of the Division's story, but the role of the individual soldier figures much more prominently in this modern treatment. As always with Helion, the book is beautifully produced and is full of very useful images, maps and so on. Although Truesdale is the primary "literary" author, David Orr has status as co-author as he has contributed greatly to the book in the images department.
