Notes
The book was translated from the French by Andrew Uffindell. Joffre is less well written about as compared with, say, Foch. His star somewhat burnt out by the middle of the war, but he still remains an important figure, especially in the early stages of the war. The book is well written by a professional soldier - and well translated. It is very far from a dry and dusty account, it is written in accessible language which the translator has captured well.
