Notes
There is no specific author quoted, but there is a footnote which states "This brochure is the result of collaboration of the following: Lieutenant-Colonel F. Brook DSO, MC; Major B.E.T. Pearsons, DSO; and Captain R.P Fenn, MC; Lieutenant H.P.B. Hoare, and others" This is a very slim volume, indeed, it is described as "a brochure". It is 68 pages long. Yet it covers the period from the outbreak of the war right through to The Hundred Days. This is because the battalion started from Salisbury Plain in October 1914 when it was created out of the 1/4th Battalion. In December of that year it departed for India, mainly Quetta, until April 1917. This period was very dormant and is dealt with in 7 pages! In May 1917 the Battalion arrived in Palestine and took part in the advance against the Turks. The Battalion was relieved in May 1918 and transferred to the Western Front. The final 45 pages of this short volume cover its time with the 62nd (West Riding) Division, first on The Marne and later in the Somme Area, ending up as part of the occupying force. All in all, a very interesting little history, in the usual N & M facsimile of the original.
