Notes
This Volume covers: The Northern and South-Western Fronts and Petrograd, January to March 1916; the Russian Offensive on the Northern and Western Fronts in March 1916; the supply of munitions, and the railways, April to July 1916; Operations on the South-Western Front from the commencement of Brusilov's Offensive (June 4th 1916) up to the formation of the Guard Army on July 25th 1916; Knox's transfer to the South, and events on the Northern and Western Fronts in June and July 1916; the operations of the Guard Army on the Stokhod, July 21st to August 12th 1916, and a visit to the Ninth Army; events on the South-Western Front from mid August to mid November 1916; the three months preceding the Revolution; the Russian Army on the eve of the Revolution; the Revolution in Petrograd, the Northern Front in April and Petrograd in May, 1917; the South-Western Front in June, and Kerenski's Offensive in July 1917; Petrograd in July and August 1917; the position in September 1917; and the Preparation of the Separate Peace. As can be seen, these two volumes together provide a really comprehensive view of the Russian military situation, and to a certain extent the political situation, throughout the war. There are plenty of (very interesting) photographs and good maps. All in all, an extremely interesting, useful, and fascinating set of books. One day we might come across the originals, but in the meantime thank goodness for N & M's wonderful; facsimile service.
