Notes
This book is a review of the situation of all the countries involved in the Great War, whether combatants or not. The proposal of the book is that the big allies were suffering from the ills of conquest, the conquered nations were bleeding from the amputations they had suffered, and the new countries created by the war were unable to carry the loads with which unjustifiable treaties had burdened them. The book tracks back through the 19th Century in order to assess the authors' views. Their conclusions are interesting, to say the least - Russia was responsible for the outbreak of the war, and Great Britain (as they describe it) contributed to the coming of the war. In the light of recent studies of the causes of the outbreak of the war, notably Sean McMeekin's, this is an interesting book. Is it outdated - or not?
