Notes
Pat Leonard was born in 1889 into a clerical family. He went to Rossall School and then Oriel College, Oxford to read mathematics. On graduation, he obtained a TA commission in the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. He served as a curate in Manchester before being accepted as a chaplain to the 8th Battalion, King's Own, being posted to the Western Front in September 1915. He transferred to the RFC in early 1918. He was involved with the growth of Toc H after the war, and eventually became the Bishop of Thetford in 1953, dying 10 years later. This book is confined to his war service, and reproduces his letters, nothing else is necessary as the letters are so descriptive. The book is very much one of the better examples of the "Letters from the Trenches" genre. We have categorised it in "Religion" as opposed to "Personal Accounts" for obvious reasons.
