Notes
Originally published by Ashanti Publishing (Pty) Ltd in 1993. The South African contribution to the war is sometimes overlooked especially when compared to the Canadian and Anzac input. But there was a significant contribution, especially on the Western Front, although admittedly not to the manpower extent of the other Dominions. And battle honours were not authorised for the units involved in the war until 1926, by which time most of the units involved had been disbanded. There are many interesting photographs and also very good plans (not always the case in books of this sort!) and the text is well written, obviously backed by solid research. We consider this book to be a key contribution to The Collection.
