Notes
(This book, although bought on a second hand basis, is in perfect condition - as new. There are many books about the days, weeks, or even months immediately preceding the outbreak of war. This one is subtly different to most of the others which we have in the Collection. McMeekin's perspective has always been from the East. His earlier books have been about the East, or been influenced by the history of that region. So the British role in the process plays a relatively minor part in his story. This brings a degree of freshness to what he writes. In some ways the book brings us back to real basics, in that he spends some time, in his Conclusion, arguing that without the incident at Sarajevo the probability is that the war would either never have started, or if it had, it would have taken a very different shape.
