Notes
This book was first published by Jonathan Cape in 1946. We delight in unearthing books about little known episodes of the war, especially those which took place east of Constantinople. This book is by, and about, one of the last protagonists of "The Great Game", and is about as exotic and romantic a part of Asia as it is possible to get, not that it was either of those things during the period of this story! On the face of it, this story may seem to be a bit of a "Boys' Own" tale, but it does have resonance concerning the whole of the area both during the war, and perhaps more importantly, in today's troubled world.
