Notes
Translated by F. Appleby Holt. The book was first published in Leipzig in 1933 by Kittler. This is a careful study of one of the leading naval figures on the German side in the war. Hipper played an important role in the Imperial German Navy's war. He particularly played a prominent role at Jutland. The author observed in his Preface that "Two nations such as the English and the Germans, who share their love for the sea and their skill in ruling it, with their common Nordic-German origin, are destined to see their fates interwoven" (!!!!!).
