Notes
Silphium Press was an imprint of The Society for Libyan Studies at The Institute of Archeology, London. The book was edited by Russell McGuirk. He was born in Boston and educated at Johns Hopkins and Harvard. He had travelled widely in North Africa and the Middle East. He lived in Egypt as a student of Arabic and then in Saudi Arabia for 9 years as Head of Translation at the US/Saudi Joint Economic Commission. He later moved to London. Williams himself was with the 1/1st Pembroke Yeomanry, attached to No. 5 Light Car Patrol. This is not a theatre noemally associated with the Great War, but there was indeed action. See also McGuirk's book about the Sanussi, in this Collection.
