Notes
This is an exact copy of this interesting and important paper, which runs to over 80 pages, with many extremely helpful and clear maps. The invasion of Rumania, after that country's declaration of war, on the Allied side, by the Germans has had very little written about it but it did have an effect, albeit fairly minor, on the outcome of the war. As Kirke points out, the Germans actually suffered more losses, both in men and materials, because of this than if they had simply invaded Rumania beforehand without any declaration by the Rumanians. Kirke posits that they gained very little from the campaign, any such gains being largely illusory. This was originally published as a paper in The Journal of the Royal United Service Institution, No. 476 of November 1924.
