This is a First Edition. It was also a Presentation Copy from the publishers to Swinton himself, and it is inscribed in the fly-leaf by Swinton. It was bought from the Swinton family. The book came with an A4 sheet of paper, with the following message: "To whom it may concern Major-General Sir Ernest Swinton K.B.E., C.B., D.S.O. (author of Eye-Witness) The leather bound edition of Eye-Witness was presumed to be a presentation copy by the printers (sic) and the inscription inside, referring to the Kaiser's remark about the development of the tank in WW1, was personally written by Sir Ernest Swinton. Other books by Sir Ernest include The Green Curve Omnibus and The Defence of Duffer's Drift, which was subsequently issued to young officers as a reference book. Sir Ernest was succeeded by his son Captain Robert Swinton. Captain Swinton married Marjorie Swallow but they had no children. I am the neice of Robert and Madge Swinton and had the care of Aunt Madge in her latter years and was responsible for dealing with her effects when she died."
